Home!

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

I made it home late Monday night. It was a heck of a journey that culminated in landing at O’Hare about 2 seconds before the airport shut down. We got stuck on the tarmac at our destination. Too much lightning apparently; they wouldn’t let the plane get to the gate. The wind was so strong our plane started to lift up again and countermeasures had to be taken. It was ridiculous.

It was a very philosophical trip. I have lots of thoughts on lots of things, and I’m too tired to get them out at present. Pictures and words will follow soon. I promise.

Avoidance

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I’ve been avoiding writing here, which annoys me to no end. The reason why I’ve been putting it off is that most of the things I have to say, I feel I cannot because there are a number of people in my life right now who like to assume that anything I write is actually about them. I find this really frustrating, because I usually don’t let the thoughts and opinions of others have much say over my standard operating procedure. And yet, I feel the need for caution now.

It’s silly. I’m not going to do this much longer. It’s to the point where if people are offended by me, they shouldn’t read my thoughts. My patience has run out, and I’m not going to give the feelings of others more consideration than my own any longer.

Happy 2010!

Face Lift for the Young

Monday, December 21st, 2009

If you’re not reading this in an RSS feed, you might have noticed some neat little changes around here. That’s right; we got a bit of a face lift. Normally the source of much embarrassment, this here face lift is a cause célèbre. I wish I could claim all the work for my own, but I merely offered opinions and suggestions. The true mastermind behind these tweaks is Mr. John Gosling (of the Carl Sagan obsession).

He’s a true trooper, appeasing all of my “ooh, could we get that just a little lighter?” requests. Because, you know, I wouldn’t be Wren Roberts if I didn’t nitpick something to death.

Thanks, John!

Edit: I do get some credit. We broke comments and I fixed them. Booyah.

Spambots are Full of Spam

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

All I can say is thank goodness for Akismet. The spambots have finally found my little blog here. Those infernal creatures posted 50+ spammy comments, and without it I would have had to have gone through each post on it’s own. What a nightmare.

It’s real cute when they extoll what an “expert you are on this topic!” and they’d “love to hear more about this!” when it’s the posts on rape. Yeah. Awesome.

And So We Begin Again

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

I’ve been meaning to do something here for awhile.  It’s always hard to start new things.  To be perfectly honest, it is hard for me to start things sometimes.  I plan and I plan and I get all ready to do something, and then I freeze up.

I don’t want this to be one of those things.  So I’m going to try very hard to keep this alive and kicking.  It might be rocky in the beginning, but we’ll see how it goes.  Deal?
